We bring the love to our local communities. We've always been that way.
Throughout our history we’ve been dedicated to serving our community. Our story began in 1957 when Marion Creech, Leonard Flannery, and George Shively founded Marion Independent FCU. It all started in the home of the treasurer, and our staff consisted of a single volunteer. From our first loan of $200, our focus has been giving our members the financial support they need.
Today, although much has changed, our focus remains the same: helping our members achieve their financial dreams. We don't exist to earn money for shareholders, we exist to give our members what counts most in life - freedom, pride, and an enduring legacy.
In 2019, Afena was certified as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). As Grant County’s only CDFI, Afena is mission-focused on increasing financial inclusion among the under-served and financially challenged individuals in our community. With the support of our many community partnerships, we continue to develop products, services, and programs that are specially designed to empower low-income and financially underserved people and families and help them enter the financial mainstream.
